Stretch Options for Healthcare Uniform Fabrics

Understand how four-way stretch, weft stretch, stretch twill and mechanical stretch appear across four healthcare-uniform fabric options.

Short answer

Treat the stretch description as a selection clue. First identify the movement and garment construction you need, then compare the fabric construction and sample. If a numerical stretch or recovery result matters, include the required test method in the inquiry.

Start with the construction, not the label alone

Stretch terms help buyers create a shortlist, but they are not interchangeable performance guarantees. Fiber blend, yarn, weave, finishing and the selected test method can all affect the result.

The current collection uses four different descriptions: four-way stretch, weft stretch, mechanical stretch and stretch twill. The pages publish those product-record descriptions without adding unverified numerical stretch or recovery claims.

Four-way stretch: KMP-212004

KMP-212004 is a 65% polyester, 30% rayon and 5% spandex plain weave at 200 GSM. It is described in the current product record as four-way stretch and is intended for scrubs, nursing and clinic uniforms.

Use it as a comparison point when the brief asks for multidirectional movement. If a program requires a minimum stretch or recovery value, name the test method and acceptance requirement in the RFQ instead of relying on the descriptor alone.

Weft stretch: KMP-231557

KMP-231557 is a 78% polyester, 20% rayon and 2% spandex weft-stretch twill at 225 GSM. Its published application is structured scrubs and healthcare uniforms.

This is the most structured and highest-weight option in the current collection. Compare its stretch direction with the garment pattern and the movement expected across key areas of the finished uniform.

Mechanical stretch: KMP-240513

KMP-240513 is a 100% polyester plain weave at 150 GSM with a mechanical-stretch construction. Unlike the three polyester-rayon-spandex options, its published composition contains no spandex.

It gives buyers a lightweight, 100% polyester route to compare. The sample should still be checked against the required garment shape, movement, appearance and care specification.

Stretch twill: KMP-240446

KMP-240446 is a 72% polyester, 21% rayon and 7% spandex stretch twill at 205 GSM. Its published applications include everyday scrubs, nursing uniforms and healthcare workwear.

When comparing it with the plain-weave four-way option, review both the twill surface and the movement required by the uniform. The close GSM values do not make the two products equivalent.

Questions to include in a stretch-fabric RFQ

Give the supplier a measurable brief wherever performance matters. This reduces ambiguity between a product description and an order acceptance requirement.

  • Which garment and movement areas matter most?
  • Is the required stretch direction one-way, weft or multidirectional?
  • Is there a named stretch and recovery test method?
  • What minimum result and tolerance must be met?
  • Which composition, construction, GSM and width are acceptable?
  • Do you need sample yardage for a garment trial?
